HISTORY

Fadlcarda Leukemia Foundation was founded in honor and loving memory of Baby Fadl Hamid. Fadl was 15months old when he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in January 7 2016. After one session of chemotherapy, his doctor’s at the Gertrude’s Garden Children’s Hospital in Nairobi suggested that Fadl should be transferred to India for a bone marrow transplant.

Given how fast Fadl’s cancer was progressing and amount of money needed for his treatment, time was of the essence. His mother, Leyla Mohamed who is a journalist by profession, greatly utilized social media as a tool to raise close to half of the funds needed for Fadl’s treatment, within three months period. Leyla and Fadl travelled to India on the 25 of April 2016.

After battling for six painful months, Fadl passed away on May 27, 2016. After the death of Fadl, Leyla reminisced the challenges she went through to secure hospital bills and travel plans for the young Fadl, in a bid to assist and ease the same for victims from poor families.

With the help of her friends and the well-wishers she met online during the life of Fadl, they started online campaigns for those children and adults facing Leukemia to get better medication and ease the emotional stress that comes with financial strain.

It is for this reason that Fadlcarda Leukemia Foundation was founded to reach out to under privileged communities whose loved ones have been affected by cancer but do not have the financial ability to access treatment.
